Talenti Brunello di Montalcino 2017

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyTalenti is situated in the Orcia river valley, south of the legendary hilltop town of Montalcino. It was established by Pierluigi Talenti in 1981, making it new by most Tuscan wine standards. Today, his grandson Riccardo Talenti oversees operations. The estate is spread across 40 hectares of land, and half is planted with vines. The rest of the property is home to olives, cereal crops, and indigenous forests, as is the Tuscan way. This Brunello di Montalcino 100% sangiovese grosso planted in ‘81, grown on clay and marly soils at an elevation of 200 to 400 metres. Only the oldest vines make it to the Brunello bottling. Late picked and hand harvested, the grapes are fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel and aged in a combination of Slavonian oak barriques and 500 litre botti for two and a half years, followed by a year of bottle age before release. Expect a rich, complex red crafted to be approachable now, but it can go the distance in the bottle (think ten or fifteen years minimum). I love the plums, baked earth, and savoury herbal notes. Throw in some smoke, leather, and rich, dense, sweet tannins, and you have a good bottle of wine. But, of course, decanting a Brunello is always necessary.Tasted: 30 July 2022Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
