Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaVanessa Meritage is cabernet dominant, mixing 45/28/27 cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot. The grapes are kept separate and fermented in small lots and aged for eight months on oak before a final assemblage, followed by 12 additional months wrapped in 40 percent new French and American oak. The nose opens with smoked plums and cassis that spill onto a similar palate with more savoury, ripe, blue and black fruit, and a warm, spicy finish. Full-bodied and mouthfilling, this is best served today with a grilled piece of beef or venison.
