Malivoire Courtney Gamay 2019

Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaMalivoire is one of Canada's top gamay specialists, with numerous expressions and releases each vintage. From the Courtney block of their Beamsville Bench estate, this gamay was destemmed and crushed, fermented in large oak cuves. Post-ferment, this remained mostly in neutral barrels, with 7% headed to new oak for 10 months before being transferred to neutral wood. In total, the wine spent 16 months in wood before bottling in early 2021. The wood is noticable, though well integrated into the deeper plum, black cherry fruit. Lightly grippy cedar-hewn tannins bone this structural wine, taking it to a spiced, white pepper finish. A bigger gamay, as intended, and one to partner with roast pork / root veg dishes.Tasted: 11 January 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
