Antiyal Carmenere Vinedo Escorial 2019

Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileIn 1996, winemaker Alvaro Espinoza and his family planted two acres of vines around their home in Maipo. In 2003, they planted their El Escorial estate in the rocky volcanic / basaltic soils of the Andean foothills with over 25 acres organic / biodynamic vines at 500m. Pura Fe means Pure Faith. This special single block carmenere comes from 17 year old vines, native fermented in large stainless tanks over 25 days, prior to 1 years' rest in Nomblot cement eggs. This opens with a tsunami of reduction, which requires serious airtime to dissipate. Then brooding dark fruit starts to emerge: wild blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, dark chocolate, woven with an earthy green pitchiness. The palate is very smoothed, as, surprisingly, are the tannins. This structural wine is built very smartly for drinking now, but has time ahead.Tasted: 13 January 2022Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
