Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Valley, Washington, United StatesThe Mercer family has been growing grapes in the Columbia Valley’s Horse Heaven Hills for fifty years. 2018 opens with a sweet blackberry pie nose with a whiff of oak and cola. The mid palate is soft and chocolatey with brown spices, powdery tannins, mixed with a warm, vanilla caramel, coconut finish. Last year I said, “a little Starbucks and little Costco”, and it is all that and more this year. The blend is 81/16/3 cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and syrah.
