Moon Curser Dolcetto 2020

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis rarely-seen dolcetto grows in Fernandes Vineyard, on Osoyoos East Bench's loamy sands. This was destemmed and not crushed, fermented cool in 5000L stainless with thrice daily pump-overs for a week before being pressed off skins. It remained in stainless until it was bottled the following March. This is an overwhelming 16.2%, akin to some Port Wine and pretty extra for table wine. This presents much more like a port on the palate than table wine, with the ample alcohol immediately apparent, followed by ripe plum, ripe blackberry, and black raspberry jam, all swirled with vanilla on a cushy chewy palate, finishing with a swell of warmth. Tannins are ample but sucked into the density of this giant red. Dolcetto is a lighter, early-drinking red of Northern Italy's Piemonte region. Not sure what this particular example is trying to express, but if you want a monster, Lodi Zin, like red from your BC backyard, here you go.Tasted: 12 July 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
