Baillie-Grohman Pinot Noir Reserve 2017

Creston, British Columbia, CanadaThis single vineyard, Creston estate grown pinot is at 650m. Destemmed fruit was cold soaked for 3 days before heading to tank for ferment and 30 days skin maceration. This completed MLF in French barriques (30% new), where it rested in total for 11 months prior to bottling. The wood is apparent from first whiff, with toasted cedar, and subtle camp smoke permeating the still potent black cherry, black raspberry, forest bark on the palate. Tannins are furry, and acidity is bright, housing this to a baking spiced, lightly warming finish. I taste more of the winemaking and less of the site and fruit here in this warm 2017 vintage.
