Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBlue Mountain has the advantage of 13 to 30-year-old vines in the ground, in effect the old and the new, leaving winemaker Matt Mavety with a selection of five different clones from which to shape his Eatste Cuvées. The perfectly tended vines that ripen with precision are picked early to retain freshness and, even more important, come in at or about 13 percent alcohol. The winemaking is simple: a whole cluster press is wild fermented and aged in French oak barriques for 17 months. The result is a sophisticated creamy chardonnay with juicy Meyer lemon and ripe nectarine flecked with spice and lees throughout the finish. Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom their Okanagan Falls estate vineyard, this is blending clones 75, 76, 95, 96, and 548, off 13-30 year old vines. This was whole cluster pressed and native fermented and then aged for 17 months in new through 3 year old 228L French barrels. Ripe and creamy, yet held bright and upright, this is shining with lemon peel, anjou pear, green apple set off by a creamy, ripe background, ample seasoned with toasty spices, roasted hazelnut and cloves. Blue Mountain Estate Cuvée Chardonnay 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThere's a real precision and focus to Blue Mountain's chardonnay program. It starts with 13- to 30-year-old vines, representing five different clones, planted at their Okanagan Falls estate. Winemaker Matt Mavety picks earlier than most, mid-September in this case, which gives this a fantastic freshness and modest 13% abv. The fruit is then whole cluster pressed and wild fermented and aged in French oak barriques for 17 months. There's still depth and surprising ripeness to the fruit, led by meyer lemon and juicy nectarine, balanced by spicy, perfumed oak, which feels more forward than previous vintages.
