Blue Mountain Estate Cuvée Chardonnay 2019

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThere's a real precision and focus to Blue Mountain's chardonnay program. It starts with 13- to 30-year-old vines, representing five different clones, planted at their Okanagan Falls estate. Winemaker Matt Mavety picks earlier than most, mid-September in this case, which gives this a fantastic freshness and modest 13% abv. The fruit is then whole cluster pressed and wild fermented and aged in French oak barriques for 17 months. There's still depth and surprising ripeness to the fruit, led by meyer lemon and juicy nectarine, balanced by spicy, perfumed oak, which feels more forward than previous vintages. Medium-bodied, round, and creamy, this is a natural pairing with rich shellfish dishes. Fantastic value.Tasted: 01 June 2021Tasted by: Prices:
