Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalA classic Portuguese field blend, mixing touriga franca, touriga nacional, tinta roriz, and sousão. Twenty percent of the mix has been growing for more than 100 years, with the remainder replanted in 1990. There is nothing shy about this wine, although, for all its weight and colour, the rich blackberry, black plums, and black cherries have a rift of minerals and violets throughout that keep it fresh and lively. Add some savoury scrub notes, and you have a very enjoyable and complex red wine that will easily age a decade and beyond. For now, grilled lamb chops or a pork roast will tame the tannins and serve the wine well.Tasted: 01 May 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalThis is a field blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Sousão, with 80% of the grapes coming from vineyards planted in the 1990's, and 20% from vineyards 60 to 100 years old. Grapes are destemmed and fermented over one week in stainless before resting for 16 months in a mix of 70% stainless and 30% in 225L used French barrels. Brooding dark plums, wild blackberries, dark cherries, downy violet flood the textural palate, threaded with a schistous line, and framed with long, finely tuggy tannins. Acidity is driving this through the finish, spiced with a dried herbal scrub. Drinking well now, especially with roast pork or lamb.Tasted: 04 May 2021Tasted by: Prices:
