Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalThis simple, entry Dão red blends tinta roriz, touriga nacional, alfrocheiro, jaen from various growers in the region, sourced by the massive Sogrape operation. Tart cherry, lightly smoked cedar rule the softer, medium=bodied palate, framed by light, gritty tannins and finishing briefly with a bitter twist. Try with roasted root veg or mushroom stews.Tasted: 16 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalGrão Vasco is a 39/38/12/11 mix of tinta roriz, touriga nacional, alfrocheiro, jaen that is pinot noir-like light and fresh. It opens with fragrant, spicy, leathery flavours with plenty of acidity that makes it very food-friendly. The Grão Vasco wines are named after Portuguese Renaissance painter Vasco Fernandes (1480 - 1543), and his famed portrait of St. Peter is featured on the label. Expect a gentle affordable red with cherry and plum and light soft tannins. The 2019 vintage in the Dão was unusually dry, but timely rain at the end of the growing cycle helped the vines to the finish line. The fruit is purchased from trusted growers and vinified at the state-of-the-art Quinta dos Carvalhais winery.Tasted: 02 May 2021Tasted by: Prices:
