Seña 2018

Valle de Aconcagua, Region de Aconcagua, ChileI have been fortunate to visit Errazuriz many times, before and after the birth of Seña, created as a joint venture between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi in 1995. The goal was to allow Chile to reach its full potential by creating a first growth wine that could compete with the great wines of the world made in the Bordeaux style. Seña, is a “signal” to the world, containing a Chilean soul thanks to its unique carmenere content, revealed by biodynamic farming principles employed across the vineyard. In 2018 all parts of the growing seasons were in harmony with the vine, including a start with replenished water reserves, a warm spring, a regular bud break, and excellent flowering. The rest of the season was dry with no heat spikes signalling an outstanding year in Aconcagua. The blend is 55/18/15/7/5 mix of cabernet sauvignon, malbec, carmenere, cabernet franc, and petit verdot. It spends 22 months in 85 percent new French oak barrels, of which 15 percent are larger foudres. The wine is superb. It opens with classic cedar, tobacco, and black fruits that spill across a beautifully textured palate that runs long and linear, exhibiting balance and finesse with an undertow of power and depth. Red and black fruit meets before a dry, savoury, cigar box finish. It is the best Seña I have tasted.Tasted: 24 March 2021Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
