Stag's Hollow Renaissance Syrah Amalia Vineyard 2018
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada2018 Renaissance Syrah is essentially a barrel selection of the top lots, separating it from the regular selection. There's only 1.2 percent viognier in the mix, resulting in fewer florals and a little more savoury wildness. The entry is peppery with cured meat and ripe, smoky, savoury black fruit that penetrates the palate from front to back. The finish is a mix of cracked black pepper, smoky leather, toasted oak, and dark chocolate. More component-like at this point than a sleek blend, it will need a decade to pull it all together. There is plenty of freshness here, so ageing shouldn't be an issue.
