Stag's Hollow Renaissance Syrah Amalia Vineyard 2015

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRenaissance Syrah, part of the premiere tier at Stag’s Hollow, comes off Amalia Vineyard on the west side of Osoyoos, gathering warm morning-sun days and finishing in the cooler evening mountain shade. Attractive and highly aromatic peppery nose with candied violets, potpourri, roasted meats, blackberry jam and oak spice which carries to the palate of this opulent, ripe syrah. Whole berry, half of which were whole clusters, was fermented and free run into French oak barrels (half new) and aged on the lees for 15 months. A splash of petit verdot (only five percent of the whole, but totally noticeable) was added before bottling unfined and unfiltered. We would love to see this without any petit verdot given its propensity to take over a wine; the perfumed violets and potpourri sticks out from and overrides the whole, amplifying syrah's inherent perfume. Tannins are silky but the and acidity keeps pace to the Spice Route finish. Berry decked duck, lamb or pork would work here.Tasted: 14 March 2018Tasted by: Treve Ring & Anthony GismondiPrices:
