Rocca di Montegrossi Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Marcellino 2014

Tuscany, ItalyPart of the Ricasoli family, this organic estate is situated in Monti in Chianti and Vigneto San Marcellino. This CCGS is 90/10 sangiovese / pugnitello, planted on albrarese and galestro soils at 350-510m. The grapes were natively fermented and macerated separately with extended skin contact, with two years ageing in barriques (70%) and tonneaux (30%), utilizing 25% new wood, before two years bottle ageing before release. Black cherries, black raspberries, dark earth leads, along with a twinge of oxidation. The generously cushioned palate is framed with strident, firm tannins, leading to a bitter espresso finish. It was quite intense and dense and somewhat disjointed at this stage, indicative of the very tricky 2014 vintage.Tasted: 16 February 2021Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
