Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe grapes are certified organic and come off the winery's Coyote Block Vineyard just on the south edge of McIntyre Bluff at 420m in Oliver. It spent 20 months in French and American oak, yielding a big roasted, black fruit nose with a savoury palate of wild blackberry, cracked pepper, and sticky, slightly bitter tannins. It is fresh and fruity, but it loses some of its charms as it ages. Best now with lamb sausages or grilled lamb chops.Tasted: 12 March 2022Tasted by: Prices: BC 53.80 winery online/direct, select private retailers, restaurants

It was planted in 2007-2008 at 420 metres. Zinfandel is a rare bird in BC, but this wine has grown from a curiosity to an interesting addition to the Covert Farms lineup. The attack is soft, lush, and fruity, in that zinfandel way, but with plenty of savoury, desert scrub underpinnings to support the blackberry, black plum, peppery fruit. What puts it above many simple California editions is its acidity and freshness. There are some tannins to shed, but it is getting close to the real deal, and the vines will only get better as they put on age through the next few decades. Serve now with grilled lamb chops or sausages to tame its youthful tannins.Tasted: 17 December 2020Tasted by: Prices: BC 53.80 winery online/direct, select private retailers, restaurants

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom their McIntyre Bluff organic estate's Coyote Block, planted 2007-2008 at 420m, this zinfandel was fermented over 3 weeks with daily punch downs before a 20 month rest in French and American oak. Plump and ripe, but with a tightening green belt, this floods the savoury palate with wild blackberry, dark plum, cracked pepper, and a good dose of grippy / sticky tannins. More savoury than most zinfandels we see, this fuller red is a worthy partner for your local lamb leg.Tasted: 03 January 2021Tasted by: Prices: BC 53.80 winery online/direct, select private retailers, restaurants
