Mac Forbes Villages Woori Yallock Chardonnay 2019

Yarra Valley, Victoria, AustraliaThis year marked the new Villages label from Mac Forbes, highlighting distinctly regional Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays in the Yarra. Woori Yallock is a hilly area based on red volcanic and grey loams, tucked behind the Waramate Hills. As is typical for the site, a favourite of Mac's, this is a structural, savoury, reserved white, built around a spine of stones. The vineyard was planted in 1995, and worked by Mac since 2012. This was destemmed and crushed before pressing and native ferment, with partial MLF before 10 months in older oak. This is not about fruit, but about structure, with lemon pith, rock salts, pear skin running the taut, vibrant palate, to a humming and saline finish. Very much in youth, this is powerful now, just starting to reveal itself, and will certainly continue to impress over the coming years in your cellar.Tasted: 24 December 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
