Perinet Merit 2016

Priorato, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainMerit is a 35/30/169/16 blend of merlot and syrah with small amounts of garnatxa and carinyena to add some classic Priorat complexity and structure to the mix. The grapes are handpicked early, reflecting their southern exposure and hot summer temperatures. That said, it is not cooked, and after a five-day cold soak, they are fermented in stainless steel tanks using carbonic maceration for 20 days. The result is a fruity style that sees no oak, and winemaker Antoni Sanchez nailed it. The palate is a mix of earthy, iron, slatey mineral notes with sour and sweet black cherry, licorice, and a savoury chocolate finish. The tannins are dense but soft, allowing you to drink this now or hold it for a decade. It's bottled unfined and unfiltered after one year in stainless steel. The Perinet Priorat DOQ wines are available at Coal Harbour Liquor Store, Sutton Place Liquor Store, Viti Liquor Store Vancouver, New District Liquor Store and Stablehouse Restaurant.Tasted: 03 October 2020Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
