Mission Hill Quatrain 2016
Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaQuatrain is the Bordeaux blend with some syrah in it. In 2016 the goal was to make it syrah dominant, and get more separation from the Compendium blend. The mix is a 34/31/28/7 blend of syrah, merlot, cabernet franc, and cabernet sauvignon. It is fermented in small, specially designed French oak fermenters and aged in French oak barrels for 20 months. I like the changes here; there is more elegance and purpose with the larger syrah contribution. Look for a brighter nose versus 2013, with floral blue fruit. On the palate, it remains rich and peppery with a big blueberry, bramble palate flecked with licorice and savoury desert scrub notes in the finish. Best of all is the texture, allowing the wine to slip around your palate effortlessly. Hold seven to ten years or drink now with roast lamb, lamb osso buco, or a favourite steak cut. The 2016 harvest lasted 76 days and set records for being BC's longest harvest ever on record. The harvest concluded on November 9, marking an exceptional Okanagan vintage.Tasted: 19 September 2020Tasted by: Prices:BC | $75.00 | 750ml | BCLS |
