Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaAt Mission Hill, they say, "Quatrain is four lines of verse that we interpret as four varietals (sic) giving balance and structure to this wine." It is a Bordeaux blend with some syrah in it. The '13 is a 45/25/18/12 blend of merlot, syrah, cabernet franc, and cabernet sauvignon, mostly from something the French would never be allowed to do under AOC rules. The fruit comes mainly from Osoyoos, with a tenth coming in from Oliver. It spent 15 months in small French oak barrels. The crop was excellent, and it's translated to the wine. Rich and generous in black and blue fruit, It's closing in on full bottle maturity. That said, the attack is full-bodied with intense dark fruit flecked with dark chocolate, raisins, espresso, along with a savoury sagebrush finish. In a perfect window now to drink, especially with grilled lamb or a rich winter stew.Tasted: 25 October 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaHistorically in Bordeaux, it was common for wines to be "hermitaged," meaning they were bolstered with syrah from the Northern Rhone. Adding syrah to be a Bordeaux blend is now showing merit in the Okanagan, and Mission Hill has led the way with Quatrain, which was first introduced in 2005. In this case, 27 percent syrah is added to a blend of 43/18/12 merlot, cabernet franc, and cabernet sauvignon. This shows a combination of blackberry and blueberry, with a dusting of attractive spices. If you have a bottle in your cellar, consider opening it over the holidays. It’s drinking just about at its peak, with the finish starting to dry out now.Tasted: 25 October 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFinally, a look at the 2013 Quatrain that has somehow evaded us until now. The ’13 is a 43/27/18/12 blend of merlot, syrah, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon mostly from Osoyoos with a tenth of the fruit from Oliver. It spent 15 months in small French oak barrels. The crop was excellent and it's translated to the wine. Rich and generous in black and blue fruit, this has a hint of raisins, dark chocolate, espresso and that savoury herbal southern desert sagebrush. This will be ready to drink sooner than later and you can start now with an herbed leg of lamb.Tasted: 10 July 2018Tasted by: Prices:
