Gold Hill Merlot 2014
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBuckle up for this 16.1% abv merlot from Gold Hill’s Estate Vineyard. It’s everything you’d expect from the label. It’s big, broad, and dense. The fruit’s dark and jammy, and just beginning to show some development from bottle age. There’s a wallop of oak. But, against all expectations, it works. It’s complex with surprising definition to the fruit. The tannins are smooth and suave at this point. You feel the alcohol but it’s reasonably integrated, with just enough freshness to make it all work.
