Painted Rock Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom 2009 plantings, this is a 80/20 blend of syrah and cabernet sauvignon. Both varieties were harvested on October 24th and then fermented and aged separately for 18 months in French oak, of which 30 percent was new. Like the single varietal syrah, this exudes lush black and blue fruits, but with more fruit weight to balance the oak. It’s a big, bold style, with the 15.2% declared abv proving it, but the cabernet sauvignon helps to bring an added layer of freshness and structure. It’s an approach that has strong merit in the Okanagan, though this ends up being more New World than Next World. Bottled unfiltered; only 140 cases produced.Tasted: 14 June 2020Tasted by: Geoffrey Moss MWPrices:
