La Gerla Rosso di Montalcino 2016

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyThis Sangiovese comes from hillsides around 300m, and vines averaging 15 years, and aged 22 months in Slavonian wood, prior to 2 months in bottle before release. The wood is very firmly felt now, even four years along, with ample toasted cedar framing the cushy cassis, blackberry, and baked plum fruit. There's a thread of tobacco and worn leather throughout, while soft, plump tannins hold this chewy wine in place to a brighter finish. Give this some airtime, and enjoy with hearty Bolognese or roasted squash.Tasted: 15 June 2020Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
