Clos du Soleil Winemaker's Series La Côte Vineyard Viognier 2019

Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is from La Côte Vineyard on the Similkameen's Upper Bench, a vineyard which is currently in transition to organic certification. The fruit was whole cluster pressed, then fermented and aged in neutral French puncheons, which just provide a faint accent to the wine. You'll find a lively, youthful viognier, bottled after five months on its lees, that shows fresh-picked stone fruits and appealing floral aromatics. There's lots of fruit, but it's bright and with surprising freshness, far from the caricature of itself that viognier can become. It's backed by crisp acidity that leaves you wanting more, and wondering why there can't be more viognier made in this style.Tasted: 05 July 2020Tasted by: Prices:
