Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaHendsbee Vineyard on the Cawston Bench is planted to two different clones, and Orofino has chosen to bottle them separately. The Mosel-like offering is Clone 21B, and it jumps from the glass with fruity aromatic aromas. The vines date back to 2006 and 2008, and the offering is off-dry with an intriguing savoury undercurrent that bolsters the entire length of the sweet lime, stony mineral palate, flecked with ripe pears, and drizzled with lemon juice. At 11.3 percent, it is a poster child for less-is-more in the riesling alcohol department. Think Thai, Chinese, or Indian food.
