Fonseca Vintage Port 2017
Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalQuinta do Panascal is the heart of this terrific release, and it was the first Fonseca quinta to start picking on 6 September. The opening is highly attractive and frankly a little less boisterous than Fonseca can be in most vintage years. Don’t be fooled. The legendary black fruit and minty floral notes swirl about the wine. As lush as the attack is, there is a wonderful counterbalance to the plenty in the glass: a stony, mineral, undercurrent followed by an unexpected level of dryness in the finish.
