M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Méal Rouge 2012

Hermitage, Northern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceThe le Méal hillside fruit is 100 percent syrah grown across high terraces of shingles and clay on 50+ year old vines. The fermentation is in small cement vats, leaving supple, round, smooth sipping tannins. Chapoutier keeps only the free run juice for Le Méal, matured in new or one year old casks for 14-18 months. It was more concentrated and more accessible to taste than the L’Orée. Look for smoky blackberry jam and dense, soft tannins that preview the ability to age for 20 to 40 years and beyond. I love that black pepper and mineral underbody that keeps it balanced and fresh. A super wine that is only just beginning to open up in the bottle.Tasted: 16 October 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
