Alentejo, Central and Southern Portugal, PortugalThe heft of this wine is matched by the heft of its bottle, with dense and potent touriga nacional, petit verdot, cabernet sauvignon and syrah controlling the massive palate. After a native ferment, this spent 24 months in new French wood, before it was lightly filtered prior to bottling. Balsamic swings through the palate, swathing through tobacco, blackberries, roasted plums and dark earth. Tannins are wood hewn and ragged, and the finish filled with warming cracked peppercorns. Very much in youth, and in need of a rich protein to match now. Better yet, wait a few years in the cellar.
