Alentejo, Central and Southern Portugal, PortugalYou can tell this full bodied red is an icon wine from the heft and weight of the bottle, echoed in the expansiveness of this touriga nacional from Alentejo. After a native ferment, this was pressed off skins into French oak, where it remained for 18 months. Very touriga, with its ample dark, dried florals atop dried cherry and plum, leather, peppery spice drawing slowly along a tarry palate. The alcohol (15%) reflects the picking decisions as much as the Douro's baking sun. Drink now with suitably equal proteins to match this mass.
