Gérard Bertrand Terroir Saint Chinian Syrah Mourvèdre 2016

St Chinian, Coteaux du Languedoc, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceSt. Chinian is a place made for Gerard Bertrand and his love of the Languedoc. Wine has been made there since the Middle Ages, and this syrah/mourvèdre planted over calcareous / schist soils is dialled. Vinification is traditional with destemming before a one-month maceration. Only one-third of the wine ages for nine months in barrels; the rest is kept in large vats to maintain its fruity aspects. I love the smoky, savoury red fruit and black licorice nose. The attack is similar, with smoked meat, espresso, blackcurrant, and prune. When you think it will be big and boisterous, the finish remains fresh with a mineral undercurrent. Impressive for the price.Tasted: 23 April 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
