Gérard Bertrand L'Hospitalitas 2016
La Clape, Coteaux du Languedoc, Languedoc, Sud de France, FranceFrom a small plot at Chateau L'Hospital on the hill of La Clape, L'Hospitalitas is a coastal vineyard heavily influenced by the Mediterranean Sea. Those sea breezes and a bit of altitude keep the site cooler than the norm, allowing for an orderly ripening. Two soil types, fossil-rich marl and chalk at the foot of the cliff, and the classic red Mediterranean soils formed on blueish grey compact limestone are home to the syrah and mourvèdre blend. The nose is bright, fresh, and spicy, with rich blackberry and blackcurrant flecked with vanilla. The palate a mix of meaty, savoury, sausage, black olive, blackberry and gingerbread that lingers forever. Long and intense, this needs a decade to fully mature. Wild boar or lamb would be the perfect match at the moment.Tasted: 23 April 2019Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $85.00 | 750ml | private wine shops |
