Blue Grouse Estate Black Muscat NV
Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaBlack muscat is a red Vitis vinifera grape variety spawned from Schiava Grossa and Muscat of Alexandria crossing back in 1850. It is commonly produced as table wine, but in California's Central Valley it has been used in the production of dessert wine. That goes ditto for Blue Grouse on Vancouver Island where it is to at the only planting on self-rooted vines in clay loam soil, spur pruned on a sprawl trellising system. This fortified red is a mix of two vintages 2011 and 2012, that has been in bottle since October 2012. The colour is a rich purple with a mahogany edge. The nose spicy and lifted with raisin-ed black currants and brown spices. The spirit is still evident, and you can fell the 18 percent alcohol by volume in the back end.
