Davis Bynum Chardonnay 2016

Russian River, Sonoma County, California, United StatesThe 2016 DB chardonnay is grown at River West Vineyard and Westside Road in the Russian River Valley, on moderately deep, well-drained soils. The clonal mix is an exciting gathering of 30 percent clone 809, 27 percent Spring Mountain, 21 percent 76, 15 percent clone 15, and 7 percent clone 4, all aged 12 months in French and Eastern European oak barrels, of which 21 percent were new. The attack is singularly bright with a lemon citrus acidity that sets up the palate for the oak and battonage, providing a creamy complexity and fresh and complex brioche character to the wine. Davis Bynum is distinguished as the first winery to produce a single vineyard pinot noir from the Russian River Valley. The vintage was 1973, and the grapes were from Joe Rochioli’s now-prized vineyard. Today they continue under the ownership of Rodney Strong, and single vineyard wines are grown exclusively in Russian River Valley.Tasted: 26 January 2019Tasted by: Prices:
