Moon Curser Touriga Nacional 2016

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaSo much black pepper here, it's insane, infiltrating every pore of this bigger red, even after a decant. I've never known touriga nacional to present like this. Then again, this is the sole TN in BC (perhaps Canada?), so who knows what to expect, really. This is from the Osoyoos East Bench's sand, loam, granitic soils. The grapes were destemmed and fermented sans-crushing at warm temperatures in 5000L stainless, with thrice daily pumpovers before heading to French oak barrels, 25 percent of which were new. It remained there until spring 2018 bottling. This is dry and potent with extract, fruit and alcohol (14 degrees). Compact on the peppery palate, with dried blueberries, potent leather, pipe tobacco and ample potpourri. Tannins are sticky to a stuck short finish. Best taken with rustic braised beef or lamb.Tasted: 29 November 2018Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
