Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Don Melchor 2012

Puente Alto, Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileThe good news here is the rising level of finesse from the latest Don Melchor, in this case a blend of 93/7 cabernet sauvignon/cabernet franc. The year was warm and the fruit is slightly richer with plenty of plum, black cherry, mocha coffee notes. The tannins are rich, dense and slippery and feed into a floral, stony mineral finish. Drink now with steak and mushrooms or strong paté, or let it age another decade. A fine cabernet sauvignon. Don Melchor boasts 127 hectares (average age in the older plantings is now 30-years-old) planted to 90 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.1 percent Cabernet Franc 1.9 percent Merlot, and 1 percent Petit Verdot. The older parts of the vineyard average 30 years in age, and the mostly stony soil is low in fertility. The wine is now aged 15 months in French oak barrels (71 percent new, 29 percent second use).Tasted: 09 December 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
