Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Napa Valley, California, United StatesPicked between September 24 and October 16, the 2013 is an 87/5/3/3/2/blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. The grapes cold soaked (the colour is opaque) prior to ferment and aged in a mix of French and American oak, 45 percent of which is new. The American oak gives this wine its enticing charm on the nose, mixing cedar/cigar box hints with black fruits and exotic spicy notes of garam masala. It was a dry year in Napa and warmer than 2012, adding even more concentration and weight to this wine, but the balance of fruit and licorice and spice is still apparent. There is plenty of tannin here and this wine has a track record of ageing impeccably, so there is no rush to drink this up. If you must open it now, make sure you have a juicy piece of beef available to take it on, otherwise sit back and wait for 2023.Tasted: 06 October 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
