Villa Antinori Toscana Rosso 2012
Tuscany, ItalyThis Toscana IGT is mostly sangiovese with small quantities of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah. 2012 was a drought year and the hot summer led to an early harvest of the merlot and syrah; the sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon were gathered in late September and early October. The juice is aged in French, Hungarian, and American oak barrels for twelve months followed eight months of bottle aging. A warm year has produced ripe red fruit laced with spice and toasted nuts. The attack is firm, and the textures round with classic savoury tobacco meaty, cassis and plum flavours with a hint of balsamic. Try this with grilled lamb chops. Interestingly, ‘Villa Rosso’ was first produced in 1928 by Niccolò Antinori, father of Piero Antinori and was revived by Piero Antinori in 2001 as an IGT wine made from estate fruit.Tasted: 06 June 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $23.49 | 750ml | BCLS |
