Quails' Gate Chenin Blanc 2013
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaI'm excited about the new Quails' Gate as it moves away from the good but austere style of winemaker Grant Stanley for the more approachable under new winemaker Nicky Callaway (ex-Mission Hill). The latest chenin has swapped the sweaty grapefruit and bitter finish for more citrus and tropical fruit all in a dry style. The palate is lively with notes of stony minerality and fresh green apple. The winery recommends it with a chilled seafood platter and we concur. It is a perfect match. The blend is 91/9 chenin blanc / sauvignon blanc that is fermented 85/15 in stainless steel tanks and 2 year-old French barrels.
