Haywire Free Form Natural and Unfiltered White 2013
Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA touch of yellow in the colour denotes its natural handling including wild yeast, zero So2 used and eight months on the skins. The nose is a muted mix of red fruits and yeast with just enough acidity to keep it from being overly flat. The attack is weighty with nutty, buttery, marzipan under a mix of sweet grilled lemons and a touch of stony minerality and good bitterness in the aftertaste. There’s a lot going on here and well worth contemplating. A kind controlled naturalness if that makes any sense. Spicy chicken, roasted or grilled is the ticket here.Tasted: 11 March 2015Tasted by: Prices:

Haywire Free Form Natural and Unfiltered White 2013
Summerland Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFree form is true to name; Summerland chardonnay and sauvignon blanc was fermented with wild yeast, blended and bottled without enzymes or SO2, and allowed to chart its own timeline in the winery (enjoying a leisurely 8 months on the skins before pressing). The result is a snapshot of nut, straw, citrus and green apple / apple peel aromas. The textured palate carries through into hay, salted lemon peel, wet stone, quiet pear blossom, bitter herbal flowers and a quince compote spiciness and struck flint finish. Delicate and sharp at once, this wine keeps you going back to look for more. Challenging, interesting, free form. Pour just slightly chilled with aged hard cheeses or herb roasted chicken thighs and potatoes. Tasted: 12 January 2015Tasted by: Prices:
