Frescobaldi Montesodi Riserva Castello di Nipozzano Chianti Rufina 2009

Tuscany, ItalyMontesodi is sangiovese with a capital 'S,' and since 1974 it is only made in exceptional years. The fruit comes off a small part of the Castello di Nipozzano estate at 400 metres. Fresh red fruit nose with flecks of blackberry and blueberry. More violets and spice preview a classy mix of cool fruits and minerality. Liquorice, black pepper, smoky, mushroom black cherry flavours abound and as supple as the tannins are, the wine is only just beginning to wake up. This needs five to ten years to fully mature in bottle. Turkey, pheasant, quail or grilled beef all work here. Tasted: 29 November 2013Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
