Errazuriz Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve 2009

Valle de Aconcagua, Region de Aconcagua, ChileThe cabernet sauvignon, syrah and carmenère grapes are sourced from Max II and Max V vineyards, planted in 1992 and 1993 while the petit verdot comes from the Don Maximiano vineyard, planted between 1978 and 1999. Aerial photographs permit block by block harvesting. The lots are fermented and aged some 22 months in new French oak barrels. In 2009 there are small percentages of cabernet franc, carmenère, and petit verdot were added to the 80 percent cabernet sauvignon to enhance the wine's complexity. Expect a fresh fragrant nose awash in red and black fruits and resiny liquorice with bits of cedar. The style is voluptuous thanks to some heat spikes with a warm expansive palate and a long finish. Less herbaceous but more alcoholic this needs a steak to tame its masculine edges.Tasted: 06 November 2012Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
