Penfolds Grange Bin 95 Shiraz 2007

South Australia, AustraliaThe Grange style is always an expression of the multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy of Penfolds. This is a big Grange and just starting its life as evidenced by its dense purple almost an opaque colour. Primary scents and flavours of crushed blueberries and chocolate jump from the glass with bits of soya, black liquorice, coffee and spice. The attack is rich but with a fine round dollop of chalky tannins and fresh but balanced acidity. A persistent solid, Grange with a long life ahead. The 2007 Grange shiraz was matured for 21 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads and contains three percent cabernet sauvignon. Cellar through 2015. Drink through 2040.
