Penfolds Grange Bin 95 Shiraz 2000

South Australia, AustraliaNot always a textbook shiraz Grange remains an icon for buyers vintage after vintage and much is done yearly to keep it that way. In the small, to tiny 2000 vintage Grange is made with 100 per cent old vine Barossa fruit most of which came off the legendary Kalimna vineyard. An all-Barossa Grange is rare, in fact only five others have been released since 1951. I think most will agree this isn't a stellar Grange but it is workman-like and as usual no stone is left unturned when it comes to making the wine. You can look for the customary tobacco, vanilla and black pepper notes with a dollop of herbal black berry fruit aromas. On the palate, it is only a medium body Grange with spicy, black cherry leafy savoury fruit. Not the most exciting Grange but it should serve a purpose in delineating the vintage and filling out collections. Tasted: 24 October 2005Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
