Cheval des Andes 2003

Las Compuertas, Vistalba District, Luján de Cuyo, Northern Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaThe '03 Cheval des Andes blends 41 malbec 41 cabernet sauvignon and 18 petit verdot into what is a giant wine. Its release was delayed until after the 2005 to give it more time to settle down in bottle and that decision has turned out to be a bonus for consumers who can now buy and drink this wine. Cheval des Andes is made at Terrazas de los Andes and represents a joint venture between Terrazas and Cheval Blanc. Look for a big wine with substantial tannins. True they remain sweet but the volume and weight has given this wine extra punch. Look for chocolate and liquorice sprinkled across its restrained, mineral/red fruit palate with bits of tobacco and dried herbs and figs in the finish. You can cellar this further or drink it now with a T-bone steak.Tasted: 28 April 2010Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
