Cheval des Andes 2005

Las Compuertas, Vistalba District, Luján de Cuyo, Northern Region, Mendoza, ArgentinaCheval des Andes is made at Terrazas de los Andes and represents a joint venture between Terrazas and Cheval Blanc. Cheval Blanc winemaker Pierre Lurton and then Terrazas winemaker, Roberto de la Mota made the blend of malbec, cabernet sauvignon and merlot and a touch of petit verdot. Look for spicy, leather, dried herbs, savoury, black cherry, violet, plum, tobacco, cedar, mineral, black olive, coffee, vanilla and cassis aromas. Rich, round, supple but grainy tannins with good acidity but warm. Intense black cherry jam, cassis jam, chocolate, liquorice, savoury, tobacco, black tea, coffee, vanilla, barnyard and cedar flavours. Long, young, good finesse, suave. Needs 3-7 years, certainly one of the most complex wines in Mendoza.Tasted: 26 June 2009Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
