Quinta do Crasto Douro Vinho Tinto Reserva Old Vines 2007

Douro Superior, Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalDoes Crasto have magic quality dust they sprinkle on their vines? The '07 Reserva delivers from front to back in the glass and is so damned good it has to be scary for its international competitors. Typically complex (thanks to mixed plantings of 25 to 30 different grape varieties closing in on 80 years of age) the colour is dark, not black this year, and the flavours intense. Nutmeg, black plums and red fruits. Big and bold but elegant and stylish. Cellar for a decade and treat yourself to an extraordinary experience. The price/bottle ratio versus 2006 Lafite (in B.C.) is more than 20 to 1. I know what I'm buying.Tasted: 22 November 2009Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
