Le Serre Nuove Dell' Ornellaia 2001
Bolgheri, Tuscany, ItalyThe classical second wine concept ─ made from younger vines and those lots not destined for the first wine (Ornellaia). This 70/30 blend of cabernet/merlot oprns with cassis jam, green bean, peppery, smoky, gamey aromas with some vanilla spice and dusty earth notes. Rich, ripe and slightly tannic but overall balanced. Peppery, minty, coffee, cassis, spicy game flavours mark the finish. Good acidity with ripe tannin structure but a tad rustic. Will improve over the next 2-4 years.
