Penfolds Thomas Hyland Shiraz 2002
South Australia, AustraliaThe Hyland shiraz is a mix of selected parcels of fruit from Barossa Valley (32%), McLaren Vale (29%) and other areas including the Upper Adelaide and the Adelaide Plains. Winemaker Peter Gago mixes French and American oak to shape this rich red and give it a coffee, vanilla, spicy, blackberry jam nose with gamey, licorice aromas. It has a rich, smooth, fairly unctuous structure with fresh coffee, blackberry jam, licorice and vanilla flavours. Simple but well balanced and smooth.
