Joseph Phelps Insignia 2001

Napa Valley, California, United StatesIn '01 the fruit comes off estate vineyards in Stag's Leap and Rutherford and 89 per cent of the blend is cabernet sauvignon. Look for spicy, vanilla, clove, tobacco, plum and blackberry jam aromas jump from the glass with some barnyard, coffee and pencil lead streaks. Rich, ripe and concentrated with good supple tannins and grip. Intense cassis jam, black berry, creamy vanilla, peppery clove flavours. Nice length and acidity with coffee, vanilla, orange peel on the finish. A touch warm but Insignia is back in a big way in 2001. One to put away for a minimum five years.Tasted: 10 March 2004Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
