Lock and Worth Square One Cabernet Franc V.4 2015
Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaCabernet franc shows massive potential in BC, and is one of the very best red grapes suited to the Okanagan and Similkameen (IMHO). This is from low-interventionist producer Lock & Worth, so you know you're getting a clear-lens view of the grape. From two acres planted in 1995 on clay soils on Naramata Bench, this spent time in neutral French oak for 17 months before being bottled unfined and Unfiltered. A bolstered base of black plum and grippy matte tannins supports cherry, anise, red currants, scrubby rockrose thorns. Acidity is brisk, carving all this rebellious intensity into a relatively streamlined form, the whole textured with a scratchy minerality. Tasting very well in youth now, this will continue to reveal and stretch over the next five+ years easy.
